Mechanistic interest is not a clinical conclusion
Research on a signalling molecule may reveal interactions that warrant further investigation. That is a reason to ask sharper experimental questions, not a reason to skip the work needed to evaluate translation, safety, or a defined clinical use. Biological complexity, model selection, and study design all influence whether an observation can travel beyond the original experiment.
When presenting the literature, distinguish “observed in this model” from “established across contexts.” Keep links to the original study and state the model in the sentence that describes the result. That simple discipline makes an article more valuable to researchers and less likely to overstate the science.
A research-ready literature note
- Record the exact paper and the original terminology.
- List the model, sample size, comparator, endpoint, and study duration.
- Note what was measured directly versus inferred by the authors.
- List limitations and gaps before drafting a proposed next experiment.
- Keep material documentation separate from biological evidence.
